The ring part is part of the wire frame. It is attached to the top part by a clip thing and a wing nut. It is a very good design and it it obviously has held up to the test of time. This one is about 70 yrs old.
DH's friend has a wire bender and he said he will try to make me another one.... if it goes well, they will go into production, and it will be a great addition at the Colonial & Victorian shows.
